There is an enormous amount of content that can be discussed about the 6th chapter of Luke. The characters, the blessings, the woes, the judges, love, the foolish, the wise are all essential to this chapter so it was hard for me to choose only one to discuss. When I think about the imagery of the fruit trees I cannot help but think about parents and children. Many of us grow up learning to express love and kindness, Luke 6:35 “ But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.” God tells us to Love our enemies yet, we hear of ex spouses despising each other after they have been wronged, we hear about people who say people of a different race or gender are the enemy, we hear hate this politician and love this one. Regardless of who every individual believes is an enemy, God still commands love. God does not tell us to ridicule, shame or judge. Luke 6:37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.” Judgment is something that we all do at some point. We judge people we know and people we don’t, but there is no reflection of love or kindness within that, therefore we are not bearing good fruit. Luke 6:43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.”
I encourage you to strive to bear good fruit, fruit that reflects love and kindness to everyone. Love is still the best thing we can give and it’s free. In regards to judgment, let’s keep in mind life is hard enough for each and every person without having judgment placed upon them. People often judge themselves more than necessary, don’t add to that. Judge less and love more today.
