When I was a little girl and I would see the word beatitude in the bible I didn’t know what it meant. At some point I decided it must have meant BEAUTIFUL ATTITUDE! I still like that thought, but God gave us much more. The beatitudes were joyous blessings for us. Over the next bit of time I would like to bring each of the beatitudes to you. I am hoping to help give you an understanding of the blessings that Jesus brought to us.
Read the first beatitude below:
Introduction to the Sermon on the Mount
5 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Poor in spirit???!!!! What?!
To put it simply, we all need to take a look at our own heart and recognize that we are in need of God. We should not have a spirit filled with pride but a spirit that is humble. We all have sin in our heart, we need to recognize that we need God’s grace, mercy and love in order to have those poor areas filled.
Heavenly father, I pray that you would help us to look at our own heart on a constant basis. Let us pull the weeds in the beautiful garden that you have created in each of our hearts. Help us set pride aside that we may be humble before you. Thank you for the blessing you have provided for us. In Jesus name.
